Blocking

The Internet is now at a stage, where it is being exploited and mismanaged by many organizations and Companies. This can be seen by the prolification of SPAM, PHISHING and INTRUSION ATTEMPTS.

Much of these events can and should be eradicated through education and the proper management of resources, with the emphasis on security policy. We find that proper enforcement by providers of access and hosting providers is very poor.

Prime examples of poorly patched operating systems is by enlarge the reason, they are exploited. This however can be minimized by taking the proper precautions when using a computer device connected to the Internet. To protect our resources and the services we provide to our clients, we have to enforce policy on all incomming traffic to our networks. This being by filtering bad attempts to compromise our systems or by outright rejection of the the traffic.

This is due to providers of services, who fail to enforce their policies to provide a secure internet computing environment to their users and for their users. We are not here to educate other providers clients on how to fix their VIRUS INFECTED HIJACKED UNPATCHED MACHINES. The least they could do is prevent their services to be used to spread the abuse. This would be a small price to pay, however greed ( corporate abuse money ) and ignorance, to the problem exists, because profits are more important.

Unfortunately we have to block providers IP adresses that are rented out for Spamming, abusive, unethical and illegal practices.

We block at server level as well as at Firewall level. When we do not get response or appropriate action taken we block at server level. When these practices continue unabated, we resort to Firewall blocking at dropping packets from the offending IP classes. This relates to Spam for hire ISP's, ISP's that run compromised networks ( we are all aware of the Cable bot networks ), as well as abusive operations of so called mailing lists, who fail to remove bounces and requests to remove. ( not the ones who claim that twice the population of the earth subscribed, when only 30% is connected globally ) We escalate our level of traffic rejection on seriousness of the incident.

1. We do not accept mail from machines that do not have proper reverse records.
2. We block mailservers that send mail to non existing accounts.
3. We drop all connectivity from network IPs that are used to spam or attempt exploits against our systems. - namely infected machines running as TROJAN BOTS, we escalate and enlarge the block, when this negligent abuse continues.
4. We block mail from mailing list servers that do not remove bounces.

If you cannot access our Network talk to your ISP, if he gives a damn, he may assist you. Its his problem, as he is blocked, as it is his IP's that have caused the abuse.

The Facts about our email Policy :

Email access to our mail servers are granted to the mailservers of other network providers with correctly configured Mailserver IP and correct DNS entries to forward email from their users to our users of our mail server.

So if your mail bounces because you feel you have rights to send directly to our mailserver, you are very mistake. If your network provider decides to delegate and give you the right to send mail, and they do not however have the right to give you the right to send to our mailservers, as we have not given you the right. If they have given you the right to send mail from your own mailservers, they need to ensure that they have given you the correct reverse DNS entries and proper reverse entries on your IPS of your sending mailserver.

You talk to your provider, and use his mailservers to send us mail or have him correct his negligence on not providing reverse and proper DNS entries. This is a simple fact, the unauthorised sending of mail to our servers will not be accepted. You want to send mail to our servers get authorization and configure your servers, dns entries correctly to prove who you are. Correct reverse entries for your mailserver and mail server IP is a requirement for our mailservers to accept your mailservers mail.

Providers of mail, that feel that they do not have to deal with rejections from our mailservers, due to their non complience, will have their access priveledges to our mailservers revoked on that class, then their netblock in that order.

Providers of Mailing and maillist software, that constantly bombard our mailservers with mail to NON existing accounts, will be give three attempts of delivery, then their access priveledges to our network will be revoked. This is due to their failure to abide by our rules of mail acceptance and their mismanagement and non complience of removing bounces from their list.
